Installing the App
Trainery is a Progressive Web App (PWA). There is nothing to download from the App Store or Google Play — your browser installs it directly from the organization’s site. Once installed, your organization gets its own icon on the home screen, opens fullscreen without the address bar, and can send push notifications for bookings and reminders.
Each organization installs separately. If you belong to two organizations on Trainery, you can install both and they will appear as two distinct icons, each with its own logo and name.
Android (Chrome, Edge, or any Chromium browser)
Section titled “Android (Chrome, Edge, or any Chromium browser)”- Open your organization’s site in Chrome — for example
your-org.trainery.app. - Sign in once. The install banner usually appears at the bottom of the screen after a moment, with an Install button.
- If you do not see the banner, open the browser menu (⋮ in the top-right) and tap Install app or Add to Home Screen.
- Confirm the prompt. The icon appears on your home screen with your organization’s logo and name.
Open the app from the home screen icon. It runs fullscreen, just like a native app, and remembers you between sessions.
iOS and iPadOS (Safari only)
Section titled “iOS and iPadOS (Safari only)”iOS is a bit more manual than Android — Apple does not show an install banner, and only Safari can install a PWA on iOS. Chrome and Firefox on iPhone use Safari under the hood for the page itself but cannot install it. If you are reading this in a different browser, copy the address and open it in Safari first.
- Open your organization’s site in Safari.
- Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen (the square with the arrow pointing up).
- Scroll down in the share sheet and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Confirm the name. Tap Add in the top-right.
- The icon now appears on your home screen with your organization’s logo.
Open the app from the home screen icon — not from Safari. Push notifications and standalone fullscreen mode only work when launched from the installed icon.
Important for push notifications on iOS: Push notifications require iOS 16.4 or later, and they only work after you install the app to the home screen. If you open Trainery in regular Safari, the option to enable push will be hidden and a small notice will explain that you need to install first. Once installed, open the app from the home screen icon, go to Profile → Notification settings, and turn on Push notifications. iOS will ask for permission once — accept it, and you are set.
Desktop (Chrome, Edge, Brave on Windows / macOS / Linux)
Section titled “Desktop (Chrome, Edge, Brave on Windows / macOS / Linux)”- Open your organization’s site in Chrome or Edge.
- Look for the small install icon in the right-hand side of the address bar — usually a monitor with a downward arrow.
- Click it and confirm Install.
- The app opens in its own window and gets a shortcut in your applications list (Start menu on Windows, Launchpad on macOS, your app menu on Linux).
If you do not see the install icon, open the browser menu and look for Install Trainery… or Apps → Install this site as an app.
Safari on macOS also supports installing web apps from the File → Add to Dock menu (macOS Sonoma and later).
Enabling push notifications
Section titled “Enabling push notifications”Once the app is installed and open:
- Go to Profile → Notification settings.
- Toggle Push notifications on.
- The browser will ask for permission. Tap Allow.
After that, your phone or desktop receives a notification whenever something relevant happens — a booking confirmation, a session reminder, or an update from your trainer or admin. You can turn the toggle off at any time.
You can also choose which channels deliver which kinds of notifications (push, email, Telegram) on the same page. Critical alerts go through every enabled channel; informational ones stay quieter.
Uninstalling
Section titled “Uninstalling”Uninstalling is the same as any other app — long-press the icon on your phone and choose Remove (or Uninstall on Android), or right-click the desktop entry. Uninstalling clears the push subscription automatically; you can reinstall and re-enable push later if you change your mind.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”The install banner never appeared on Android. You may already have it installed, or the browser may have hidden the banner after you dismissed it once. Open the browser menu and use Install app / Add to Home Screen directly.
On iOS the “Add to Home Screen” option is missing from the share sheet. The share sheet is customizable. Scroll all the way down to the Edit Actions… entry and enable Add to Home Screen if it has been hidden.
Push notifications stay disabled even after I allowed them. On iOS, make sure you opened the app from the home screen icon, not from Safari. On Android, check the system Settings → Apps → Trainery → Notifications to confirm they are not blocked at the OS level.
My organization’s logo and name are wrong on the home screen icon. The icon and name are pulled from your organization’s branding on Trainery. If your admin updates them, uninstall and reinstall the app to refresh the icon — iOS and Android cache the home-screen icon and do not auto-update it.
I belong to two organizations and only one icon appears. Each organization lives on its own subdomain. Install each one separately by visiting its site in the browser and following the steps above.
If something is still not working, let your organization’s admin know — or report a bug from inside the app.
